A national win for the person keeping Chester Market buzzing
Chester Market’s Adele Thomas has been named Market Manager of the Year for large markets—a cheer for the people behind the city’s food-hall success.

A busy market looks effortless from the other side of the counter. Behind the lunch queues and independent traders is a lot of organising—and Chester’s market manager has just earned national recognition for it.
Cheshire West and Chester Council announced on 13 October that Adele Thomas has won the National Association of British Market Authorities’ Market Manager of the Year award for large markets. Judges recognised her leadership, business performance and contribution to the wider markets sector.
The council says the new Chester Market, which opened almost four years ago, is fully occupied. It also points to strong visitor numbers and cooperation between traders as part of the venue’s success. Thomas shares her experience with other market operators and also manages Winsford Market.
For a local business, it is a useful reminder that a memorable place is built by people as much as by a building. A friendly welcome, consistent presentation and a team that takes pride in the details can be the things customers remember long after lunch.
