A garden with a bigger story: Cheshire College makes sustainability shortlist
A student-created wellbeing garden and practical conservation learning feature in Cheshire College's latest award nomination.

Sometimes a good local story starts with a patch of unused ground. Cheshire College - South & West has turned that kind of space into a wellbeing garden, and its wider environmental work has now earned an Educate Awards shortlist place.
The college announced on 19 October that it is a finalist for Outstanding Commitment to the Environment & Sustainability. Through its partnership with Chester Zoo, Entry Level students helped create the garden at Ellesmere Port Campus for students and staff.
The work reaches beyond the garden gate. An Environmental Leadership Course has taken learners outdoors to explore habitats and conservation, including activities at Red Rocks Sands in West Kirby. The college also highlights hands-on training in sustainable construction and electric vehicle technology.
The winners will be announced at Liverpool Cathedral on 13 November. For now, this is a nomination rather than a trophy - and a welcome reason to notice the practical learning happening across our area's college community.
